Jim O'Brien made his return to Indianapolis after just 3 short years in Cincinnati, where he served as the NBC 5 chief meteorologist.
Prior to Cincinnati, Jim worked at WTHR 13 for 3 years. He began his career in Fort Wayne, IN back in 1996, followed by 3 years in his hometown of Louisville at WLKY-32. Jim has a B.S. in Atmospheric Science and a B.A. in Communications from Western Kentucky University. He continues to stay updated in the latest weather advancements through coursework from both Mississippi State University and Portland State University.
He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association, where he has been awarded the seals of approval for his outstanding work in the meteorological field. While studying in college, Jim also served in the military at Fort Knox. He was a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard for close to 6 years with a specialty in reconnaissance and light weaponry.
In his spare time, Jim enjoys traveling with his wife Melissa "Missy" and daughter Molly "Cheeks". At home you'll find him working in the yard, reading a book or watching the latest game.
