WXIN-TV DTV Consumer Education Report: First Quarter 2008
History
WXIN FOX 59 first signed on February 1, 1984, as WPDS –TV. The call letters were changed to WXIN in August of 1985. As a FOX Broadcasting Company affiliate, WXIN FOX 59 features seven nights of Primetime programming and has twice been named the FOX "Affiliate of the Year." WXIN FOX 59 is committed to providing Central Indiana with quality network programming, syndication, local news and sports coverage. Tribune Broadcasting purchased WXIN FOX 59 in 1997 and continues to own and operate it today.
Coverage
WXIN FOX 59 is carried on 120 different cable systems and reaches approximately 656,000 total cable subscribers in Central Indiana. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of the cable systems in the Indianapolis DMA carry FOX 59 and WXIN can be seen on a lower channel tier position (channel 11) in over ninety percent (90%) of cable TV homes. In non-cable homes, WXIN FOX 59 delivers one of the strongest over-the-air signals in the country, making it a powerhouse television station in Indiana.
Network
The FOX Network has been home to dozens of hit shows including The X-Files, Beverly Hills 90210, Ally McBeal, The Simpsons, That 70's Show, Malcolm in the Middle, American Idol, and 24. These award winning first-run programs are just a few of the many that have escalated FOX Network's success throughout the years. In addition to award winning Primetime programs, FOX continues to be the leader in sports television and has been awarded more sports Emmys than any other network.
News
Since debuting in September of 1991, FOX 59 News at 10PM has proven its position as Indianapolis' #1 10PM Newscast. FOX 59 News at 10PM has won numerous Emmy's, including "Outstanding Daily Newscast" in 2004.
FOX 59 Morning News
Indianapolis' only all local, all live 3-hour morning news program, launched in April off 1999. The energetic anchor team, creative graphics and local emphasis gives morning viewers news, weather, traffic, sports, medical breakthroughs, consumer trends and entertainment. This innovative local newscast has successfully set itself apart and continues to demonstrate significant growth in all key demos.
Sports
WXIN FOX 59 provides Central Indiana with local and national coverage of America's favorite sporting events. Nationally, NFL, MLB, and NASCAR on FOX all call WXIN FOX 59 home. Locally, FOX 59 Sports covers Indiana's professional and college teams, along with auto racing and high school sports, every morning and evening – and closes each week with FOX 59 Sports Sunday.
Syndication
WXIN FOX 59 syndicated programming features The Simpsons and Family Guy, along with Seinfeld. WXIN FOX 59's syndicated comedies continue to dominate Indianapolis' early fringe, access and late fringe time periods in key demos year after year.
